With a good 42.000 students (tendency rising), the University of Hamburg is one of the largest universities in Germany. It combines a diverse range of teaching with excellent research with over 170 courses at 9 faculties. Founded in 1919 by Hamburgs’s Parliament, it is Germany’s first university established via a democratic process.
The University is committed to sustainability and all of our faculties have taken great strides towards sustainability in research and teaching. It is known for its outstanding basic research as well as its applied and transfer research projects. 7 key research areas and 16 areas of potential shape research at our University.
Built in 1919, the historic main building and architectural wing buildings are located in the heart of Hamburg, combining tradition with modernity.
